Want to submit to The Black Book?

Fiction & Verse Submissions

All material to be sent via email to: bbook@shoggoth.net. Preferably, submissions should be in either .DOC or .RTF format as both these formats preserve formatting features in your work. If your PC or MAC does not support either of these formats then by all means send your submission in any of the following:

- WordPerfect
- Works
- Plain Text

Please remember it is important to include details of any formatting features such as bold, italics, etc. Also, as a last resort, I will accept items sent in HTML.

A note on fonts. Please don't use fancy fonts when sending items. It is a lot easier for me if you use web standards fonts such as Arial or Verdana.

Art Submissions

I am always on the lookout for talented artists. I must state that I only really need illustrations for tales or pieces for cover art. If you are not put off by this, then send your work in the following formats:

- JPEG
- GIF
- TIFF
- PNG

When making initial contact, submit items in a thumbnail size first.

Scenario Submissions

The magazine is mostly a literary project, but should you feel that you have an exceptional scenario that demands to be published then do send it in and I will consider it. Please note the above guidelines for text and images.

Links

Seen a glaring absence in the links page? Then let me know. I will pop over and view the site - deciding whether to add it or not. It isn't guaranteed to be added unless the content is related to:

- Weird / Horror / Sci-Fi genres specifically with the Mythos in mind.
- Cthulhu Mythos inspired art work.
- Articles related to the Cthulhu Mythos.
- Interviews related to the Cthulhu Mythos and its contributors.
- Reviews of collections with Mythos content in whole or in part.

General

I am always happy to consider all forms of poetry and short or long novella length pieces. Anything more substantial will be accepted for consideration. If I feel the material merits publication then I will either make an individual eBook for it, or serialize if if you are agreeable.

As for the issue of use of profanity, I will judge it on these criteria:

- Is it accurate to the piece's timeline?
- Can the integrity or mood of the piece be sustained without it?
- Is it a realistic character response, or merely gratuitous?
- Finally, does it feel right?

Please do not be discouraged from submitting, or committing yourself to extensive re-writing until you have sent the piece to me and I have given you an answer.

Be patient. I promise to read or look at a submission as quickly as I can can and send a response.

The Black Book is a labor of love, and as such is subject to the vageries of life. There is no definite schedule. Each issue will be ready when it is ready.

All material published is COPYRIGHT by the AUTHOR. All rights RESERVED.

It is a pleasure to receive your hard work. Don't be disheartened by any of the above as I am always open to discussion. However, my decision is final. If I suggest a re-write or something similar, then please take it as a professional comment and not a personal criticism.
